About Us
AGS was founded in 1925. The Las Positas College Sigma Theta Chapter was chartered in 1981. Las Positas College hosted the AGS Northern California Regional conference in 1987, 1999, and in 2008. Las Positas College has also been the host for the AGS State Convention in 2002, 2004 and is scheduled to host again in 2013. Mr. Taylor celebrated his 16th anniversary as Sigma Theta Chapter Alpha Gamma Sigma Advisor at Las Positas College during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Alpha Gamma Sigma takes an active role in our campus community and our surrounding communities through individual and AGS group volunteer efforts. Such volunteerism has benefited many organizations in and around our surrounding communities. AGS has started annual events such as the "Keep Them Warm" coat drive, Oakland’s Children's Hospital Annual Toy Drive and our annual canned food drive. We play an active role in the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive that takes place in the fall of each year. AGS also sponsors the “Pizza Nights’ after the cafeteria closes at night and offers refreshments for dance recitals, plays, and concerts.
AGS members volunteer their time by assisting with Las Positas College campus events such as: graduation, senior parent night, major’s fair, mega day, and the annual gala.
We at Alpha Gamma Sigma are proud to be a part of these events and look forward to continuing to serve our communities in the future.
The Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society focuses on recognizing individuals for their academic excellence as well as their involvement in the community, and their commitment to helping others. Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) sponsors and coordinates a variety of fund-raisers every year, as well as awarding its own in house scholarships. Each of its members exemplifies leadership, scholarship, and impeccable character.
Every year AGS raises thousands of dollars for charity and scholarships. AGS members also attend the annual regional and state conferences; participate in Club Day, Transfer Day, the Major Exploration Faire, and a variety of other Las Positas events and fund-raisers. AGS is also responsible for coordinating the blood drive every year. The members of AGS also coordinate Pizza Nights, Monday through Thursday, and sell snacks and drinks for the night students at Las Positas.
If you are new to AGS you should stop by Mr. Taylor's office as quickly as possible so he can explain to you how AGS works and what the benefits may be.
